Lest they be forgotten…

To all of those who served in the US Military, and their families… Thank you and God bless.

Application withdrawn… Again.

The application for a Special Permit to mine sand and gravel at 329 Granville Road was being deliberated on by the P&Z Commission when the applicants abruptly withdrew their application. This is the second time that this application was withdrawn by the Girard Brothers who were applying to mine the property which they own as Peck Orchard, LLC.

The Girards threatened to take out a building permit which will, as their lawyer opined, allow them to take out much more material and work unlimited hours including weekends.

The property is zoned residential and the Girards were initially seeking a six year permit to mine the property. The latest permit was requested for two years.

The permit application was met by stiff opposition from many North Granby residents who would have been adversely affected by the mining operation.

P&Z Strip Mine vote tonight. Special meeting.

There will be a Special Meeting of the P & Z Commission to vote on the Special Permit to operate a strip mine in North Granby. The meeting will be in the Town Hall Meeting Room at 6 P.M. May 17, 2013.

Please attend if you can.

Budget referendum succeeds.

1211 yes votes – 808 no votes.

GET OUT AND VOTE! IF YOU DON’T, YOUR PROPERTY TAXES COULD INCREASE OVER SIX PERCENT!!!

By their own calculations, the members of the Board of Finance crunched the numbers on their own properties and found that the increased spending could change their rate of taxation up to 6.47 Percent! CAN YOU AFFORD THAT KIND OF AN INCREASE??? I know that I can’t

May 6, 2013. Voting opens at 12:00 noon and concludes at 8 P.M. Polling at the Town Hall Meeting Room.

The numbers of voters that turned out for the last referendum were good, but we can do better Granby! If you didn’t vote last time, get out and vote today. Call your friends and relatives. Make sure that they get out as well. Your ability to vote the budget up or down has been restored. GET OUT AND VOTE!

As referenced in the post below, THERE ARE NO CUTS IN EDUCATIONAL SPENDING! There’s still a SIGNIFICANT INCREASE IN SPENDING despite lowering that increase by $30,000.

Don’t fall for the scare tactics of Alan Addley and Cal Heminway. THERE ARE NO CUTS TO THE EDUCATIONAL BUDGET!

Don’t listen to me, play the video below where Cal Heminway was forced to tell the truth about the educational budget. CAL HEMINWAY CONFIRMED THAT THERE ARE NO CUTS TO THE EDUCATIONAL BUDGET!

The Finance Committee Chairman told us that it was a two percent increase. THAT INFO WAS NOT ACCURATE.

By their own calculations, the members of the Finance Committee crunched the numbers on their own properties and found that the increased spending could change their rate of taxation up to %6.47 Percent.

THAT’S RIGHT! A PROPERTY TAX INCREASE OF SIX POINT FOUR SEVEN PERCENT!!!

Again, at 11:23 A.M. I received a robocall from Alan Addley -here- utilizing the school resources. (860) 844-5250. This message was only sent out to school parents, as was confirmed by his Secretary Linda Powell.

The call only went out to a select audience. This is a misuse of school resources. When Alan Addley was called at 11:30 a.m. he was unavailable for comment. It must be assumed that he is out scaring parents into voting for the bloated budget proposal. One thing that I’m sure he won’t tell them that THERE ARE NO CUTS TO THE EDUCATIONAL BUDGET!

The truth. Finally, an informed voter. There are NO CUTS in the educational budget!

Lo and behold. There was actually one person who showed up at the second budget hearing armed with logic and facts. Thank you very much sir for cutting through all of the clutter, emotional hand wringing and knee jerking. Thank you for forcing Cal Heminway to tell the truth.

There are NO CUTS in the educational budget. The educational budget has been significantly INCREASED, far in excess of the amount spent last year.

It’s quite clear that the majority of people who spoke out were the victims of Cal Heminway and Alan Addley’s scare tactics. Sorry folks, you’ve been duped. Just more propaganda and misinformation from the “Big Education” tax and spenders. Cal Heminway and Alan Addley.

Democrats – Republicans… What’s the difference? Exactly!

Granby Democrat and Republican Town Committee chairmen proclaim their love for each other.

Although they don’t bicker like Congress, they sure know how to pork up budgets like Congress. It’s no surprise that they get along so well. As long as the Republicans continue to spend like drunken Democrats, there will be harmony. The question is, at what cost?

School Superintendent uses BoE resources to mobilize school parents on town budget vote…

I received this robocall from Alan Addley this afternoon.   Is this considered a legitimate use of school time and resources?  Does this robocall service bill by the call as other similar services do?  Wouldn’t the time and money spent on this be effort be better utilized to educate our children?

The “big education” drones are being mobilized.  Make sure that you get out and cast your vote.  Tell Cal Heminway that the taxpayers are NOT his personal ATM machine!

If you go to the meeting, make sure to ask Cal Heminway how much Granby taxpayers are paying to educate students who don’t even live in Granby.  Ask him how we acquired a “Special Ed” student that caused a $100,000 increase in the school budget.  That student doesn’t live here either.

We must  counteract the “Big Education” drones  like this one who calls for more spending, just for the sake of spending more on education.

Speaking of MR. Addley, not DR. Addley…  Interesting to note that this man is one of the highest paid School Superintendents in the State and yet he doesn’t have a Doctorate.  Why did Granby hire someone with an inferior education and pay him top dollar anyway? There are Granby school Principals and staff members that are better educated than Addley.  Why is he making more money than they are?

Our children deserve better for our tax dollars.

Granby deserves better for our tax dollars.

Support responsible educational spending!

Not educational bureaucrat spendthrifts!

P&Z Commission members consider strip mine proposal in residential neighborhood despite strong opposition from residents…

…and apparently without regard for existing Zoning Regulations. The special permit application is for the property located at 329 Granville Road. The access is from Peck Orchard Road. Large numbers of neighborhood residents have objected to the commercial use and the noise that it will generate. Listen to the deliberation and see if you can pick out the commission members who put Granby first. Also take note of the fact that there was absolutely no discussion about the conditions which a special permit application must comply with in a residential zone.

Over eleven hundred voters turn out to vote on the town budget referendum.

The referendum on the town budget has just wrapped up and the number of voters exceeds eleven hundred. It’s good to see that Granby voters turned out and made their voices heard. We’ll find out how the votes were cast soon.

This is an interesting comment on The Patch from Bill & Susan Regan.

Another misinformation campaign from the Town Fathers. The mailer sent our last week stated “Proposed Property Tax Increase 2%”. Yet with reval, it’s a 14.7% mill rate increase.Multiply your new assessment by 35.19 and see what your new tax really is.
Mill Rate AFTER REVALUATION 30.69 to 35.19 is a 14.7% increase
